Best online broker/platform for long-term investments?
Main Post:
Hi all,
I'm planning to invest quite a bit of my income into ETFs this year, with the goal of holding onto them potentially for decades.
I already have a bit of money in Sharesies, but I'm looking for another platform to do my "serious investing" with. Sharesies has been great so far, but I'm not sure I'm willing to trust my retirement fund to a relatively young start-up company.
I'd rather invest it with a big, global company that has a bit more pedigree. Vanguard would be nice, but they seem to charge $9 brokerage every time you buy or sell. This isn't ideal since I will be contributing small amounts every paycheque, and I don't want to spend $9 every time I do that.
Are there any alternatives to Vanguard which offer a better free structure?
Thx in advance!
Top Comment: So to confirm, you don’t want to trust a ‘start up’ company, but you also don’t want to pay the heavy fees that established incumbents charge? I guess we are lucky then to have the CHESS system where regardless of what happens to the broker, you’re holdings are directly legally owned and registered in your name. Stake currently has the sharpest pricing of $3 flat per trade. Some smart people have probably worked out that you can get 5 free trades with SelfWealth (with a referral code), then assuming your portfolio is over $1000 you can transfer to Stake and get 12 months free* trades there. All on your own HIN. *Max of 10 free per month.
Online Investment options in Japan for a new investor looking to invest in US stocks
Main Post:
I’m recently just started a new job in Japan and I would like to invest in US stocks with the savings that I get from my current job. I am a beginner investor so a brokerage with the lowest minimum fee is more ideal for me.
Are there are online brokerage accounts that I can use without having to put in a large deposit?

If you're a US citizen, I recommend opening a Vanguard account. Send money to the US using Transferwise, and then invest in Vanguard funds.
Online Investment Platforms for Cyprus Residents?
Main Post:
What platforms can Cyprus residents use for making investments?
When i was resident in the UK i could use a range of digital platforms like AJ Bell, Nutmeg, Axa etc to make and manage investments in funds, trusts, company stocks etc. There was also an ISA regime which meant earnings were tax free. However, I can't use any of that anymore as I'm now resident in Cyprus not UK so what are the options?
All help appreciated!

Start by saving money to invest. Then, never invest money that you can't afford to lose.
